The LNP has today committed $2 million towards a new Care Goondiwindi Neighbourhood Centre in Southern Downs if elected this month.
A new, purpose-built neighbourhood centre will enable Care Goondiwindi to grow their disability and health services and to help tackle the causes of youth crime in Goondiwindi with more support for at-risk kids and their families.
LNP Member for Southern Downs, James Lister MP, said the $2 million for Care Goondiwindi is part of the LNP’s commitment to making communities safer with both stronger laws, and gold standard early intervention and support.
“The LNP has the right plan for Queensland’s future, including tackling the youth crime crisis which a decade of Labor government has caused.
“Care Goondiwindi is a vital and much-beloved part of the community, delivering health and disability services – not just for Goondiwindi – but also for our neighbours in nearby New South Wales communities.
“This funding towards a new purpose-built neighbourhood centre will help Care Goondiwindi to grow their wonderful disability and health services, and importantly, to help divert at-risk kids away from involvement in crime.
Care Goondiwindi CEO, Tracy MacDonald, welcomed the LNP’s funding announcement and said it that it would kick start their much-needed facilities expansion.
“The need for our services in Goondiwindi and the region continues to grow, and our existing Callandoon Street facility is holding us back.
“We desperately need more space to meet increasing demand for our services, including early intervention support for at-risk kids and their families.
“This wonderful commitment of $2 million will enable Care Goondiwindi to acquire suitable land, commission a design and detailed business case, and seek further funding when we’re ready for construction.
Goondiwindi Mayor Lawrence Springborg welcomed the LNP’s commitment of $2 million towards a new Care Goondiwindi neighbourhood centre.
“Care Goondiwindi is a very important service provider for people and families in need across this region and Council is grateful that, through his advocacy, James has secured this commitment.
